Fat Fight

I-35 connects Minnesota to Texas. Minnesota seems to have its own rivalry with Texas, although most Texans are not aware of this.

But let's just say for a second Texans and Minnesotans had equal feelings about such a rivalry. Say a friendly, trivial rivalry like St. Paul vs. Minneapolis. For example, St. Paulites brag about the Cathedral, The Nook, and the Science Museum. Meanwhile, Minneapolitans puff their collective chest out over the Basillica, Matt's, and The Walker.

So what if St. Paul, Minneapolis, and the rest of Minnesota joined forces to take on Texas?

Minnesota could boast The Jucy Lucy. Texas would counter with deep-fried catfish.

vs.

Fried Catfish Platter from Brieztke's Cafe in New Berlin, TX

Who would win?

Seeing as Texas could follow with barbecued brisket and Tex-Mex food, I think Minnesota's going down this time.

I'm sorry but fried catfish is not the best Texas has to offer. I think I would rather eat a brisket taco than a Jucy Lucy.

Emily: fried catfish > lutefisk

And Carl, you'd be happy to know, as Emily just mentioned, there is a restaurant in San Antonio (Garcia's) that has brisket tacos. Tex-Mex meets BBQ. A dream come true. Not sure how Minnesota can top that.

The jucy lucy looks pretty good but tex mex, bbq etc, how can a single sandwich compete?? Matt

I think that in the hamburger class a Luther's beanburger would hold it's own with a Jucy Lucy...

Matt: You are right about burgers, BBQ, and Tex Mex. San Antonio is limited in the food genre, but what it does, it does well. Dare I say better than anyone else? BUT, Twin Cities gets a nod for diverisity. If you want vegeterian, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese... the Twin Cities runs circles around San Antonio. It's a tough call.

b-in-law: I've enjoyed many a Luther's burger, but never the bean burger. Chris Madrid's has a mighty fine bean burger, though. I was just telling Emily when we were driving down Blanco last week that Chris Madrids could match Matt's (Jucy Lucy) burger for burger. I had forgotten about Luthers. I guess I'm more Minnesotan (LutherAN) than Texan (Luther'S). Ugh.
